Our Carpentry Training Certificate Program is designed to equip beginners with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to work with wood and other building materials in the construction industry. Learners gain hands-on experience in measuring, cutting, shaping, joining, and assembling materials while developing the ability to read basic construction drawings and work safely with hand and power tools. The training combines practical workshop experience with essential carpentry knowledge, helping learners build a strong foundation for residential, commercial, and general construction projects while creating a pathway toward more advanced and specialised carpentry opportunities.

Theory Training – 20%: The theory component combines classroom learning with structured lessons, discussions, and group activities, providing learners with a strong foundation in carpentry principles, materials, tools, safety procedures, and construction practices.

Practical Training – 80%: The practical component provides hands-on workshop experience focused on real-world carpentry and construction techniques. Learners apply their theoretical knowledge while developing practical skills under professional supervision.

Competency Assessment: At the end of the training, learners undergo a competency assessment conducted by qualified assessors and moderators. The assessment evaluates their theoretical knowledge, practical skills, safety awareness, and ability to complete carpentry tasks safely and competently.

Introduction to Carpentry: Understanding the fundamentals of carpentry, common materials, basic construction principles, and the role of a carpenter in different work environments.

Tools & Equipment: Identifying and safely using common carpentry hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and workshop machinery.

Technical Drawing & Blueprint Reading: Learning to read and interpret basic technical drawings, construction plans, measurements, dimensions, and specifications.

Measuring, Cutting & Joining: Developing accurate measuring, marking, cutting, shaping, and joining techniques for different wood and building materials.

Types of Carpentry: Introduction to different areas of carpentry, including structural, finishing, construction, furniture, and specialised carpentry work.

Furniture & Cabinetry Construction: Learning basic techniques for constructing furniture, cabinets, shelving, and other wooden structures.

Roofing & Structural Framing: Introduction to roof structures, timber framing, supports, joints, and basic construction methods.

Flooring Installation & Finishing: Measuring, preparing, cutting, fitting, and finishing different flooring materials and surfaces.

Furniture Making: Practical skills for designing, assembling, finishing, and completing basic furniture projects.

Site Construction Carpentry: Applying carpentry skills on construction sites, including framing, fitting, installation, and general building work.

Upholstery: Introduction to basic upholstery techniques, materials, preparation, and finishing for furniture applications.

Kitchen Units: Measuring, assembling, installing, and finishing basic kitchen cabinets and units.

Ceilings & Drywall: Introduction to ceiling structures, drywall installation, framing, fixing, joint preparation, and finishing techniques.

Painting, Varnishing & Polishing: Preparing wooden surfaces and applying suitable paint, varnish, polish, and finishing products to achieve a professional result.

Occupational Health & Safety: Understanding construction-site safety requirements, PPE, safe tool operation, hazard awareness, workplace procedures, and compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

You can either bring your own PPE for training or purchase it from the college for an additional R1,000.

Required PPE: Overall, Safety Helmet, Goggles, Gloves, Safety Boots.

Furniture Making Training Course
