Our Electrical Installation Training Course provides learners with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to safely install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. Training covers electrical safety, wiring methods, electrical components, tools and equipment, circuit installation, distribution boards, switches, sockets, lighting systems, cable management, basic fault finding, testing procedures, and safe working practices. Learners gain practical experience under supervision while developing the skills needed to work confidently with electrical installations in accordance with applicable safety requirements and industry practices.

Theory Training – 20%: The theory component covers electrical principles, electrical safety, wiring systems, electrical components, circuit design, tools and equipment, installation methods, distribution boards, switches, sockets, lighting systems, testing procedures, and basic fault-finding principles.

Practical Training – 80%: The practical component provides hands-on workshop experience where learners practise cable preparation, wiring circuits, installing switches, sockets and lighting, connecting electrical components, working with distribution boards, performing basic testing, identifying faults, and following safe installation procedures under professional supervision.

Competency Assessment: Learners undergo a competency assessment conducted by qualified assessors and moderators. The assessment evaluates their theoretical knowledge, practical installation skills, safety awareness, correct use of tools and equipment, testing procedures, and ability to complete electrical installation tasks safely and competently.

Electrical Theory & Fundamentals: Understanding electrical current, voltage, resistance, basic electrical formulas, electrical principles, and the purpose of common electrical tools and equipment.

 

Electrical Safety Training: Learning safe working procedures, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout principles, hazard identification, workplace safety rules, fire prevention, and basic first-aid procedures.

Electrical Tools & Equipment: Developing safe and correct use of multimeters and testing instruments, drills, cable cutters, crimpers, conduit benders, and other electrical tools, including basic care and maintenance.

Electrical Wiring Principles: Learning common wiring methods, electrical circuits, switches and sockets, conduit bending and installation, cable sizing, insulation, and correct wiring practices.

Electrical Installations: Practical introduction to domestic electrical installations, distribution boards (DB boards), earthing and bonding, light fittings, switches, sockets, and appliance connections.

Fault Finding & Troubleshooting: Learning how to identify and diagnose common electrical faults, perform basic load and continuity testing, trace circuit problems, and safely repair or replace electrical components.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

You can either bring your own PPE for training or purchase it from the college for an additional R1,000.
