Our Pipe Welding Training Course provides hands-on practical training in joining metal pipes using appropriate welding techniques for different pipe materials, sizes, and applications. Learners develop essential skills in pipe preparation, cutting, beveling, pipe alignment, root pass welding, weld pass techniques, joint formation, welding positions, and weld quality control while following safe welding practices. The course is designed to build practical confidence for work in piping systems, fabrication, construction, engineering, mining, and industrial environments.
Theory Training – 20%: The theory component covers the fundamentals of pipe welding, including welding principles, pipe materials, welding equipment, welding processes, pipe preparation, cutting and beveling, pipe alignment, welding safety, PPE, joint types, welding positions, and common welding defects.
Practical Training – 80%: The practical component provides hands-on workshop experience where learners practise preparing and beveling pipes, aligning and securing pipe sections, setting up welding equipment, controlling welding parameters, performing root passes and subsequent weld passes, working with different pipe joints and welding positions, and producing quality welds under professional supervision.
Competency Assessment: At the end of the training, learners undergo a competency assessment conducted by qualified assessors and moderators. The assessment evaluates their theoretical knowledge, practical welding ability, pipe preparation, joint alignment, welding techniques, safety awareness, and ability to complete pipe welding tasks safely and competently.
Introduction to Pipe Welding: Understanding the fundamentals of pipe welding, common pipe welding processes, different pipe materials, and the basic principles of joining pipes for industrial and structural applications.
Workplace Health & Safety: Learning correct PPE requirements, hazard identification, ventilation, fire prevention, electrical safety, safe handling of welding equipment, hot-work precautions, and proper workshop procedures.
Pipe Welding Equipment Setup & Controls: Setting up welding equipment, selecting suitable electrodes and welding consumables, adjusting welding parameters, inspecting equipment before use, preparing pipe sections, and ensuring safe and efficient operation.
Pipe Materials & Preparation: Identifying common pipe materials such as carbon steel and stainless steel, preparing pipe surfaces through cutting, grinding, cleaning, and beveling, and ensuring pipe ends are ready for welding.
Pipe Alignment & Fit-Up: Learning to measure, position, align, and secure pipe sections correctly, maintain suitable root gaps, and prepare pipe joints for accurate welding.
Pipe Joint Types & Welding Positions: Practising pipe butt joints and developing skills in different welding positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and fixed-pipe positions where applicable.
Pipe Welding Techniques: Developing skills in root pass welding, hot passes, fill passes, cap passes, electrode or filler material handling, travel speed, heat management, and maintaining consistent weld quality.
Welding Defects & Repairs: Identifying common welding problems such as porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, lack of penetration, and inconsistent welds while learning basic troubleshooting and corrective techniques.
Quality Inspection & Standards: Learning to visually inspect completed pipe welds, identify quality issues, and understand applicable pipe welding quality requirements, inspection methods, and welding standards.
Final Practical Assessment: Completing a supervised pipe welding task that allows learners to demonstrate pipe preparation, alignment, welding techniques, safety practices, and the ability to produce acceptable pipe welds.
Piping Production Process: Introduction to basic piping workflows, including interpreting measurements and specifications, preparing pipe sections, fitting and joining components, inspecting completed welds, and maintaining an organised and safe work area.
