1. How Much Is Boilermaker Course?

Our basic boilermaker course costs R8,500 per person for 4 weeks of training. The course is intended for learners who want to gain foundational boilermaking knowledge and develop practical metalworking skills.

When comparing boilermaker course fees in South Africa, consider the duration of training, practical activities, equipment used and the type of certificate issued. A basic or semi-skilled course is different from a formal occupational qualification or trade-test programme.

If you want to enter the metal fabrication industry or improve your understanding of basic boilermaking tasks, this type of training can provide a starting point for further skills development.

2. What Do You Learn in a Basic Boilermaker Course?

Boilermaking involves preparing and working with metal components used in fabricated structures, machinery and industrial applications. Our basic training introduces learners to fundamental processes and the importance of accuracy, appropriate tool selection and workplace safety.

Training topics include:

  • Introduction to boilermaking: Understand the role of boilermakers in construction, manufacturing, engineering and industrial maintenance.

  • Metal identification: Learn about common metal materials and their uses in fabrication.

  • Measuring and marking out: Understand how to measure materials and mark dimensions accurately before cutting or shaping.

  • Metal cutting and preparation: Learn the basic principles of preparing metal components for fabrication.

  • Metal shaping: Develop an understanding of how metal components are prepared to meet the requirements of a task.

  • Basic fabrication techniques: Learn about the processes used to prepare and assemble metal components.

  • Welding fundamentals: Understand the role of welding in joining metal components where covered by the training programme.

  • Assembly and fitting: Learn the importance of positioning, aligning and assembling components correctly.

  • Tools and equipment: Understand the uses and safe handling of common workshop tools.

  • Health and safety: Learn about workshop hazards, personal protective equipment and safe working procedures.

These topics help learners develop foundational knowledge of boilermaking and metal fabrication.

3. What Is Semi-Skilled Boilermaking Training?

Semi-skilled boilermaking training focuses on developing practical abilities for basic metalworking and fabrication tasks. It introduces learners to the processes, tools and procedures used in a fabrication workshop without representing the course as a complete trade qualification.

Semi-skilled training can be relevant to individuals who want to build a foundation for work as a fabrication assistant, workshop assistant or boilermaker’s assistant.

The skills developed can include measuring materials, marking out components, preparing metal for fabrication, understanding assembly procedures and following workshop safety requirements. The actual duties a learner can perform depend on their competence, workplace supervision and employer requirements.

4. Does the Boilermaker Course Include Practical Training?

Practical skills are an important part of learning boilermaking. Learners need to understand how metal materials are prepared and handled, how measurements are applied and how fabrication tasks are performed safely.

Practical learning can cover:

  • Measuring and marking metal components.

  • Identifying suitable tools for basic fabrication tasks.

  • Understanding metal preparation and cutting procedures.

  • Learning the principles of shaping and fitting components.

  • Understanding basic assembly techniques.

  • Following safe workshop practices.

  • Inspecting work for measurement accuracy and correct alignment.

These skills provide a foundation for further practical experience in metal fabrication and related industrial work.

5. Who Should Enrol for Basic Boilermaking Training?

Our basic boilermaking course is intended for people who want to develop foundational metal fabrication skills. It can be relevant to:

  • Beginners interested in learning boilermaking.

  • Individuals seeking semi-skilled metalworking training.

  • Aspiring boilermaker’s assistants.

  • Construction workers who want to broaden their practical skills.
