Our Telehandler / Telescopic Boom Handler Operator Training Course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to safely and efficiently operate telehandlers in construction, industrial, agricultural, and material-handling environments. The training covers essential machine operations, pre-start inspections, operating controls, telescopic boom functions, attachments, load handling, lifting and lowering, load charts, rated capacity, machine stability, workplace hazards, pedestrian awareness, and emergency procedures. Learners are guided on how to operate the equipment responsibly while following manufacturer specifications, load capacity requirements, site procedures, and recognised workplace safety practices. The course provides valuable skills for individuals seeking opportunities in industries such as construction, mining, agriculture, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, industrial operations, and material handling.

Theory Training – 20%: Covers telehandler fundamentals, machine components and controls, manufacturer specifications, pre-start inspections, boom operation, attachments, load charts, rated capacity, load stability, lifting principles, machine stability, workplace safety, PPE, hazard identification, and emergency procedures.

Practical Training – 80%: Provides hands-on experience in conducting pre-operation checks, starting and stopping the telehandler, operating the telescopic boom and attachments, lifting and lowering loads, extending and retracting the boom, manoeuvring, positioning loads, stacking and unstacking materials, and operating safely on different surfaces and terrain.

Competency Assessment: Learners are assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical telehandler operation, load handling, boom and attachment control, stability awareness, manoeuvring, safety practices, and ability to operate the equipment safely and effectively.

Machine Orientation: Learn what a telehandler/telescopic boom handler is, its functions and applications, different types of telehandlers, and the main components and their functions. Training covers the boom, carriage, attachments, forks, hydraulic system, operator controls, safety features, warning systems, and maximum operating capacity according to manufacturer specifications.

Pre-Operation Checks: Learn how to conduct comprehensive pre-start inspections, including checking tyres, brakes, fluid levels, hydraulic systems, boom, forks, attachments, steering, controls, warning devices, and overall machine condition. Training also covers identifying and reporting faults and understanding the manufacturer’s operating manual.

Site Preparation & Work Planning: Learn how to assess and prepare the work area before operations begin. Training covers ground conditions, access routes, work areas, required attachments, PPE, safety signs, exclusion zones, overhead hazards, and pedestrian areas.

Safe Operation Procedures: Learn essential PPE requirements, site safety procedures, hazard identification, load stability, machine stability, blind spots, pedestrian awareness, operating on slopes and uneven terrain, and emergency procedures.

Operating Procedures: Learn the functions of telehandler controls according to manufacturer specifications, including starting and stopping, steering, braking, boom extension and retraction, lifting and lowering, tilting, attachment operation, and safe manoeuvring.

Load Handling & Capacity: Learn how to safely handle loads by understanding load charts, rated capacity, load weight, load centre, lifting height, boom reach, attachment capacity, and machine stability. Training covers avoiding overloading and maintaining safe load positioning.

Attachments & Material Handling: Learn how to safely use common telehandler attachments such as forks, buckets, platforms, and other approved attachments, including selecting the correct attachment and ensuring it is properly secured before operation.

Lifting, Stacking & Positioning: Develop safe techniques for collecting, lifting, transporting, placing, stacking, and retrieving materials, while maintaining appropriate clearances and controlling the machine and load throughout the operation.

Worksite & Terrain Operations: Learn how to operate safely in construction sites, warehouses, farms, yards, uneven ground, slopes, restricted areas, and other challenging environments, while maintaining machine stability and awareness of surrounding hazards.

Post-Operation Procedures: Learn correct shutdown, parking, cleaning, inspection, and securing procedures, including lowering the boom and attachment, parking in a designated area, reporting faults, and completing required workplace logs and documentation.
