Our Motor Grader Operator Training Course is designed to equip learners with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate a motor grader in demanding work environments. The training covers essential machine operations, safety procedures, pre-start inspections, operating controls, blade and attachment adjustments, grading and levelling techniques, road construction, material spreading, workplace hazards, and emergency procedures. Learners are guided on how to operate the equipment responsibly while following manufacturer specifications, site requirements, and recognised workplace safety practices. The course combines classroom knowledge with hands-on practical training to help learners develop the confidence and competence required to operate a motor grader in industries such as construction, mining, quarrying, earthmoving, civil engineering, road construction, infrastructure development, and plant hire.

Theory Training – 20%: Covers motor grader fundamentals, machine components and controls, manufacturer specifications, pre-start inspections, hydraulic systems, blade controls, grading principles, road construction, levelling techniques, workplace safety, PPE, hazard identification, site preparation, machine stability, and emergency procedures.

Practical Training – 80%: Provides hands-on experience in starting and stopping the motor grader, steering and manoeuvring, operating and adjusting the blade, grading and levelling surfaces, spreading and shaping materials, road construction techniques, working on slopes and uneven terrain, maintaining accurate grading angles, and safely positioning the machine on site.

Competency Assessment: Learners are assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical machine operation, grading and levelling ability, safety awareness, and ability to operate the motor grader safely and competently.

Machine Orientation: Learn what a motor grader is, its main functions, and how it is used for earthmoving activities such as grading, levelling, shaping, ditching, road construction, and surface preparation. Training covers the main components and their functions, safety features, warning systems, maximum operating capacities, grader indicators, and appropriate corrective actions according to manufacturer specifications.

Pre-Operation Checks: Learn how to conduct thorough pre-start inspections, including checking tyre pressure, fluid levels, brakes, hydraulic systems, steering, controls, and the overall condition of the grader. Learners are trained to identify and report faults, understand the manufacturer’s manual, and park the grader according to manufacturer and worksite requirements.

Site Preparation & Work Planning: Learn how to assess and prepare the worksite before operation. Training covers determining the correct sequence of activities, selecting required equipment and attachments, identifying PPE and safety signs, assessing ground conditions, and preparing the work area according to site requirements.

Safe Operation Procedures: Develop safe operating practices covering PPE, workplace safety, hazard awareness, confined-space considerations, emergency procedures, and safe driving on different terrains and in changing weather conditions. Learners also learn how to recognise grader warnings and operate safely to reduce the risk of tipping and equipment damage.

Grader Operating Procedures: Learn to operate Caterpillar grader controls according to manufacturer specifications. Training covers starting and stopping, steering, speed control, blade controls, operating on different terrains, and safe manoeuvring around the worksite.

Blade Setup & Grading Techniques: Develop practical skills in setting up and adjusting the blade and performing different grading activities, including levelling, sloping, ditching, fine grading, and precision surface work. Learners also practise working on wet or uneven ground and adapting grading techniques to challenging site conditions.

Efficiency & Machine Care: Learn techniques for improving operating efficiency, maintaining consistent grading results, reducing unnecessary machine wear, and using the grader correctly to support productivity and equipment longevity.

Post-Operation Procedures: Learn correct shutdown procedures, cleaning and securing the grader, checking the machine after operation, reporting faults or maintenance requirements, and completing workplace logs, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
