Our Truck-Mounted Crane Operator Training Course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to safely and efficiently operate truck-mounted cranes for lifting, loading, unloading, and positioning materials in professional working environments. The training covers essential crane components and controls, pre-operation inspections, load charts, rated capacity, lifting procedures, boom operation, stabiliser and outrigger setup, load management, crane stability, safe manoeuvring, communication and signalling, workplace hazards, and emergency procedures. Learners are guided on how to operate the equipment responsibly while following manufacturer specifications, lifting plans, load limits, site requirements, and recognised workplace safety practices. The course provides valuable skills for individuals seeking opportunities in industries such as construction, transport, logistics, freight, engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure development, and general lifting operations.

Theory Training – 20%: Covers truck-mounted crane fundamentals, crane components and controls, manufacturer specifications, pre-start inspections, load charts, rated capacity, boom operation, stabiliser and outrigger requirements, load stability, lifting principles, workplace safety, PPE, hazard identification, communication, signalling, and emergency procedures.

Practical Training – 80%: Provides hands-on experience in conducting pre-operation checks, setting up the truck-mounted crane, positioning stabilisers and outriggers, operating the boom, hoisting and lowering loads, slewing, positioning loads, controlling load movement, and carrying out safe lifting operations.

Competency Assessment: Learners are assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical crane operation, outrigger setup, load handling, boom control, communication and signalling, safety awareness, and ability to operate the truck-mounted crane safely and effectively.

Machine Orientation: Learn what a truck-mounted crane is, its functions and applications in lifting, loading, unloading, and material-handling operations. Training covers the truck chassis, crane base, boom, hook, winch, hydraulic system, outriggers, stabilisers, controls, safety features, warning systems, and operating capacities according to manufacturer specifications.

Pre-Operation Checks: Learn how to conduct comprehensive inspections, including checking tyres, brakes, fluid levels, hydraulic systems, wire ropes, hooks, boom, outriggers, stabilisers, controls, safety devices, and overall vehicle and crane condition. Training also covers identifying and reporting faults and understanding the manufacturer’s operating manual.

Site Preparation & Lift Planning: Learn how to assess and prepare the lifting area by considering ground conditions, vehicle positioning, outrigger placement, overhead obstructions, power lines, lifting radius, load path, weather conditions, exclusion zones, PPE, and communication requirements.

Safe Operating Procedures: Learn essential PPE requirements, site safety procedures, hazard identification, suspended-load safety, blind spots, crane stability, safe clearances, wind and weather considerations, and emergency procedures.

Crane Setup & Outriggers: Learn how to correctly position and stabilise the truck-mounted crane before lifting. Training covers safe vehicle positioning, deploying outriggers and stabilisers, assessing ground conditions, maintaining required clearances, and ensuring the crane is stable before operation.

Operating Procedures: Learn to operate crane controls according to manufacturer specifications, including starting and stopping, boom extension and retraction, hoisting and lowering, slewing, load positioning, speed control, and coordinated crane movements.

Load Charts & Capacity: Learn how to interpret load charts and rated capacity, considering factors such as load weight, working radius, boom length, lifting height, outrigger configuration, and crane setup. Training covers operating within approved limits and avoiding overloading.

Load Handling & Positioning: Develop safe techniques for lifting, moving, lowering, and accurately positioning loads, while maintaining load stability and preventing uncontrolled movement, swinging, or sudden stops.

Communication & Signalling: Learn effective communication between the crane operator, rigger, signal person, and other site personnel, including standard hand signals, radio communication, agreed signals, and procedures for maintaining clear communication throughout lifting operations.

Post-Operation Procedures: Learn correct shutdown, securing, and parking procedures, including lowering and securing the boom, retracting outriggers, inspecting the crane, reporting faults, and completing required workplace logs and operational documentation.
