Our Mobile Crane Operator Training Course is designed to equip learners with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate a mobile crane in demanding work environments. The training covers essential crane operations, safety procedures, pre-start inspections, crane controls, lifting and lowering techniques, load handling, rigging and slinging awareness, load charts, crane stability, workplace hazards, and emergency procedures. Learners are guided on how to operate the equipment responsibly while following manufacturer specifications, site requirements, lifting procedures, and recognised workplace safety practices. The course combines classroom knowledge with hands-on practical training to help learners develop the confidence and competence required to operate mobile cranes in industries such as construction, mining, manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure development, engineering, ports, and industrial operations.

Theory Training – 20%: Covers mobile crane fundamentals, crane components and controls, manufacturer specifications, pre-start inspections, load charts, rated lifting capacity, crane stability, lifting principles, rigging and slinging awareness, workplace safety, PPE, hazard identification, site preparation, communication, and emergency procedures.

Practical Training – 80%: Provides hands-on experience in setting up and positioning the mobile crane, operating crane controls, boom movement, lifting and lowering loads, slewing, load positioning, safe load handling, working with lifting accessories, communicating with banksmen or signalers, and performing lifting operations under professional supervision.

Competency Assessment: Learners are assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical crane operation, load handling, safety awareness, communication, and ability to operate the mobile crane safely and competently.

Machine Orientation: Learn what a mobile crane is, its functions, different types of mobile cranes, and their applications in lifting and material-handling operations. Training covers the main components and their functions, safety features, warning systems, maximum operating capacities, crane indicators, alarms, and appropriate corrective actions according to manufacturer specifications.

Pre-Operation Checks: Learn how to conduct a thorough pre-start inspection, including checking the battery and electrical systems, boom, hook, wire rope, tyres, brakes, fluid levels, hydraulic system, outriggers, stabilisers, and overall crane condition. Learners are trained to identify and report faults, follow the manufacturer’s operating manual, and ensure the crane is correctly positioned and parked according to manufacturer and worksite requirements.

Site Preparation & Work Planning: Learn how to assess and prepare the worksite before lifting operations. Training covers planning the sequence of lifting activities, selecting required lifting equipment and accessories, identifying PPE and safety signs, assessing ground conditions, establishing safe working zones, and preparing the site according to operational requirements.

Safe Operation Procedures: Develop safe operating practices covering PPE, power lines, overloading, tipping, ground collapse, unstable surfaces, wind and adverse weather conditions, as well as site safety, restricted working areas, emergency procedures, and safe operation on uneven ground. Learners also learn how to recognise crane warnings and respond appropriately to unsafe conditions.

Operating Procedures: Learn to operate mobile crane controls according to manufacturer specifications. Training covers load charts, rated capacity, load radius, boom length, outrigger positions, starting and stopping, crane positioning, outrigger setup, swing radius, speed and load limits, and safe lifting procedures.

Communication & Signalling: Learn effective communication between the crane operator and signaller, including standard hand signals, radio communication, lifting instructions, exclusion zones, and the responsibilities of the signaller during lifting operations.

Lifting & Operating Techniques: Develop practical skills in performing controlled lifting and lowering operations, slewing, boom movements, load positioning, and smooth crane movements. Learners practise avoiding sudden stops, uncontrolled swings, excessive speed, and unsafe load movements while maintaining safe distances from people, structures, power lines, and other equipment.

Load Management & Rigging Basics: Learn basic principles of load management, including slings, shackles, tag lines, load balance, load security, and correct positioning of lifting accessories. Training covers maintaining load stability and controlled movement during lifting operations.

Post-Operation Procedures: Learn correct shutdown procedures, lowering and securing the boom, retracting and securing outriggers, cleaning and securing the crane, parking according to worksite requirements, reporting defects or maintenance requirements, and completing required workplace logs, inspection records, and operational documentation.
