Our Tower Crane Operator Training Course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to safely and efficiently operate tower cranes in construction and lifting environments. The training covers essential tower crane components and controls, pre-operation inspections, load charts, rated capacity, lifting and lowering procedures, load management, crane stability, slewing, trolley and hoisting operations, communication and signalling, workplace hazards, safe lifting practices, and emergency procedures. Learners are guided on how to operate the crane responsibly while following manufacturer specifications, lifting plans, site requirements, load limits, and recognised workplace safety practices. The course provides valuable skills for individuals seeking opportunities in industries such as construction, civil engineering, infrastructure development, commercial building, industrial projects, and heavy lifting operations.
Theory Training – 20%: Covers tower crane fundamentals, crane components and controls, manufacturer specifications, pre-start inspections, load charts, rated capacity, lifting principles, load stability, crane stability, hoisting, slewing, trolley movement, workplace safety, PPE, hazard identification, communication, signalling, and emergency procedures.
Practical Training – 80%: Provides hands-on experience in conducting pre-operation checks, operating tower crane controls, hoisting and lowering loads, slewing, trolleying, positioning loads, maintaining controlled movements, following lifting signals, and operating safely within designated lifting areas.
Competency Assessment: Learners are assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical crane operation, load handling, control movements, communication and signalling, safety awareness, and ability to operate the tower crane safely and effectively.
Machine Orientation: Learn what a tower crane is, its functions and applications in construction and lifting operations, and the main components and their functions. Training covers the mast, jib, counter-jib, trolley, hook block, hoist system, slewing mechanism, operator cab, counterweights, safety features, warning systems, and operating capacities according to manufacturer specifications.
Pre-Operation Checks: Learn how to conduct comprehensive pre-start inspections, including checking the structure, mast, jib, wire ropes, hooks, sheaves, brakes, limit switches, hoisting system, trolley system, slewing mechanism, controls, electrical systems, safety devices, and overall crane condition. Training also covers identifying and reporting faults and understanding the manufacturer’s operating manual.
Site Preparation & Lift Planning: Learn how to assess the lifting area and prepare for operations by considering ground and foundation conditions, lifting zones, load paths, overhead obstructions, power lines, weather conditions, exclusion zones, PPE, and communication requirements.
Safe Operating Procedures: Learn essential PPE requirements, site safety procedures, hazard identification, suspended-load safety, blind spots, crane stability, wind and weather considerations, safe clearances, and emergency procedures.
Operating Procedures: Learn to operate tower crane controls according to manufacturer specifications, including starting and stopping, hoisting and lowering, slewing, trolley movement, controlled positioning, speed control, and coordinated crane movements.
Load Charts & Capacity: Learn how to interpret load charts and rated capacity, considering factors such as load weight, working radius, jib position, lifting height, hook position, and crane configuration. Training covers operating within approved limits and avoiding overloading.
Load Handling & Positioning: Develop safe techniques for lifting, transporting, lowering, and accurately positioning loads, while maintaining load stability and preventing uncontrolled movement, swinging, or sudden stops.
Communication & Signalling: Learn effective communication between the crane operator, signal person, riggers, and other site personnel, including standard hand signals, radio communication, agreed signals, and procedures for maintaining clear communication during lifting operations.
Post-Operation Procedures: Learn correct shutdown and securing procedures, including positioning the crane as required by manufacturer and site procedures, securing controls, reporting faults, and completing required inspection logs and operational documentation.
