Our Oxy-Fuel Cutting Training Course provides hands-on practical training in using oxygen and fuel gas to preheat metal and cut through steel and other suitable metals. Learners develop essential skills in cutting torch setup, gas pressure adjustment, flame control, torch handling, material preparation, cutting techniques, straight-line cutting, bevel cutting, and cutting quality control while following safe oxy-fuel cutting practices. The course is designed to build practical confidence for work in fabrication, metalworking, construction, engineering, manufacturing, and industrial environments.

Theory Training – 20%: The theory component covers the fundamentals of oxy-fuel cutting, including cutting principles, oxygen and fuel gases, cutting torch equipment and functions, gas pressure settings, flame adjustment, cutting safety, PPE, material preparation, cutting techniques, and common cutting defects.

Practical Training – 80%: The practical component provides hands-on workshop experience where learners practise setting up oxy-fuel cutting equipment, connecting and adjusting gas regulators, controlling the preheating flame, operating the cutting oxygen lever, preparing metal surfaces, performing straight-line and bevel cuts, and cutting metal safely and accurately under professional supervision.

Competency Assessment: At the end of the training, learners undergo a competency assessment conducted by qualified assessors and moderators. The assessment evaluates their theoretical knowledge, practical cutting ability, equipment handling, flame control, cutting accuracy, safety awareness, and ability to complete oxy-fuel cutting tasks safely and competently.

Introduction to Oxy-Fuel Cutting: Understanding the fundamentals of oxy-fuel cutting, how oxygen and fuel gas produce a preheating flame, and how a stream of oxygen enables the cutting of suitable metals.

Workplace Health & Safety: Learning correct PPE requirements, hazard identification, ventilation, fire prevention, flashback prevention, safe gas-cylinder handling, leak detection, hot-work precautions, and proper workshop procedures.

Cutting Equipment Setup & Controls: Setting up oxy-fuel cutting equipment, connecting gas hoses and regulators correctly, adjusting gas pressures, inspecting equipment for leaks and damage, selecting suitable cutting torch tips, and preparing equipment for safe operation.

Metal Identification & Preparation: Identifying suitable metals such as carbon steel, preparing surfaces through cleaning and marking, measuring material dimensions, and positioning metal securely before cutting.

Cutting Torch Setup & Gas Adjustment: Learning to connect gas hoses and regulators correctly, adjust oxygen and fuel gas pressures, select suitable cutting torch tips, inspect equipment for leaks, and prepare the cutting torch for safe operation.

Cutting Techniques & Positions: Practising straight-line cutting, bevel cutting, piercing where appropriate, and cutting metal at different angles while developing control over torch movement and cutting speed.

Oxy-Fuel Cutting Techniques: Developing skills in preheating metal, controlling the cutting oxygen stream, maintaining the correct torch angle and distance, following marked cutting lines, and producing clean, accurate cuts.

Cutting Defects & Corrections: Identifying common cutting problems such as excessive slag, rough cut edges, excessive kerf width, incomplete cuts, and uneven cutting while learning basic troubleshooting and corrective techniques.

Quality Inspection & Standards: Learning to inspect completed cuts, assess edge quality and dimensional accuracy, identify defects, and understand applicable cutting quality requirements and workshop safety standards.

Final Practical Assessment: Completing a supervised oxy-fuel cutting task that allows learners to demonstrate equipment setup, gas pressure adjustment, torch control, cutting accuracy, safety practices, and the ability to produce acceptable cuts.
