Our First Aid course introduces learners to essential emergency care skills and the correct procedures for assisting someone who becomes injured or suddenly ill. The training develops an understanding of how to assess an emergency, provide immediate assistance and respond appropriately while waiting for professional medical help. It is suitable for beginners, employees and individuals who want to develop practical first aid knowledge for workplace and everyday situations.

1. How much does a First Aid course cost?
Our First Aid training course costs R5,500 per person and takes 2 weeks to complete. The programme covers essential first aid principles, emergency scene assessment, CPR awareness, wound care, bleeding control, burns, fractures and other common medical emergencies.

2. What is First Aid training?
First Aid training teaches individuals how to provide immediate assistance to someone who is injured or becomes ill before professional medical help arrives. It focuses on recognising emergencies, assessing the situation, protecting the casualty from further harm and providing appropriate initial care.

3. What do you learn in a First Aid course?
The course introduces learners to important first aid procedures and emergency response techniques, including:

  • First aid principles and responsibilities.

  • Assessing an emergency scene.

  • Checking a casualty’s responsiveness.

  • Recognising signs of medical emergencies.

  • CPR principles and procedures.

  • Managing bleeding and wounds.

  • Treating burns and scalds.

  • Responding to fractures, sprains and dislocations.

  • Managing choking incidents.

  • Recognising shock.

  • Responding to fainting and seizures.

  • Calling for emergency medical assistance.

4. What is CPR and do you learn it in First Aid training?
CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is an emergency procedure used when someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally. CPR helps maintain blood circulation and oxygen delivery until professional medical assistance and appropriate equipment are available.

First Aid training introduces learners to recognising cardiac arrest, activating emergency assistance and the principles of CPR. Practical CPR training and assessment are important parts of developing these skills.

5. How do you control bleeding during an emergency?
Controlling bleeding is an important first aid skill. Learners are introduced to identifying the severity of bleeding, protecting themselves from exposure to blood and applying appropriate initial care.

Training covers:

  • Recognising minor and severe bleeding.

  • Applying direct pressure to a wound.

  • Using appropriate dressings and bandages.

  • Recognising signs of significant blood loss.

  • Seeking urgent medical assistance.

  • Monitoring the casualty while waiting for help.

6. How do you provide First Aid for burns and scalds?
Burns can result from heat, hot liquids, chemicals or electrical sources. First Aid training teaches learners how to recognise different burn injuries and provide appropriate initial assistance.

Topics include:

  • Identifying common causes of burns.

  • Recognising the seriousness of burn injuries.

  • Cooling thermal burns with cool running water.

  • Avoiding creams, oils and other unsuitable substances.

  • Covering burns with an appropriate sterile, non-fluffy dressing.

  • Seeking medical assistance for serious burns.

7. What should you do if someone is choking?
Choking occurs when an object blocks the airway and prevents normal breathing. First Aid training introduces learners to recognising the signs of choking and responding appropriately.

Learners develop an understanding of:

  • Identifying mild and severe airway obstruction.

  • Recognising when a casualty cannot speak, cough or breathe effectively.

  • Providing appropriate choking first aid.

  • Activating emergency medical assistance.

  • Responding if the casualty becomes unresponsive.

8. How do you treat fractures, sprains and dislocations?
First Aid training covers the recognition and initial management of common bone and joint injuries. Learners are taught how to assess an injury, avoid unnecessary movement and protect the affected area while arranging medical assistance.

Training includes:

  • Recognising possible fractures.

  • Identifying sprains and dislocations.

  • Supporting and immobilising injured limbs.

  • Managing swelling and pain through appropriate first aid measures.

  • Avoiding attempts to straighten or reposition injured bones or joints.

  • Arranging medical assessment.

9. What First Aid equipment should you know how to use?
Learners are introduced to common items found in workplace and household first aid kits and understand their purpose.

These include:

  • Sterile wound dressings.

  • Gauze and bandages.

  • Adhesive plasters.

  • Disposable medical gloves.

  • Antiseptic wipes.

  • Burn dressings.

  • Scissors and safety pins.

  • CPR face shields.

  • Emergency blankets.

Understanding how to select and use appropriate supplies helps learners provide organised first aid during an emergency.

10. Where can First Aid skills be used?
First Aid knowledge is useful in workplaces, public environments and everyday situations where injuries or sudden illnesses can occur.

Relevant environments include:

  • Construction sites.

  • Factories and manufacturing facilities.
