Our Practical Boiler Making Training course teaches learners the essential skills required to fabricate, assemble, install, weld, and maintain metal structures and components used across industrial environments. Training covers metal preparation, cutting and shaping, fabrication techniques, welding, reading basic drawings, safe use of tools and equipment, and correct installation procedures. Learners gain practical experience working with metal structures commonly found in factories, mines, power plants, construction projects, engineering workshops, and marine industries, helping them develop valuable skills for the fabrication and engineering sector.
Theory Training: The theory component combines classroom learning with structured lessons, discussions, and group activities. Learners develop an understanding of essential boiler making principles, materials, tools, equipment, safety procedures, fabrication methods, and workplace practices.
Practical Training: The practical component provides hands-on workshop experience focused on real-world fabrication and construction techniques. Learners apply their theoretical knowledge while developing practical skills in measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling, welding, and working with metal structures under professional supervision.
Assessment: Following the training, learners undergo an assessment conducted by qualified assessors and moderators. The assessment evaluates their theoretical knowledge, practical skills, safety awareness, and ability to complete relevant tasks safely and competently.
Introduction to Boilermaking: Understanding the purpose and scope of boilermaking, workshop safety, roles and responsibilities, and the correct use of tools and equipment.
Safety Training: Correct PPE usage, safe operation of power tools, working at heights and in confined spaces, fire prevention, and basic first-aid awareness.
Engineering Drawings & Measurement: Reading and interpreting fabrication and pipework drawings, accurate measuring, marking-off, layout techniques, and understanding dimensions and specifications.
Metal Preparation: Measuring and marking materials, cutting, grinding, edge preparation, bending, rolling, and shaping metal components according to required specifications.
Welding Processes: Introduction to Arc Welding (SMAW), correct welding practices, identifying common weld defects, and basic weld inspection and quality control.
Fabrication of Structural Components: Practical fabrication of metal structures and components, including cutting, fitting, alignment, assembly, joining, and welding according to drawings and specifications.
Pipe Fabrication: Measuring, marking, cutting, preparing, fitting, and joining pipes, including basic pipe fabrication techniques and safe handling procedures.
Practical Assessments: Learners complete practical tasks to demonstrate their ability to apply the skills covered during training, with their work assessed for accuracy, quality, safety, and competency.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
You can either bring your own PPE for training or purchase it from the college for an additional R1,000.
Required PPE: Overall, Safety Helmet, Gloves, Safety Boots and Drawing Board.
