Our Oxy-Acetylene Welding Training Course provides hands-on practical training in using a high-temperature flame produced by combining oxygen and acetylene gas to heat, melt, and join metal components. Learners develop essential skills in equipment setup, gas pressure adjustment, flame control, torch handling, filler rod selection, material preparation, welding techniques, joint formation, and weld quality control while following safe oxy-acetylene welding practices. The course is designed to build practical confidence for work in fabrication, metalworking, construction, engineering, and industrial environments.
Theory Training – 20%: The theory component covers the fundamentals of oxy-acetylene welding, including welding principles, oxygen and acetylene gases, welding equipment and torch functions, flame types, welding safety, PPE, material preparation, gas pressure settings, joint types, and common welding defects.
Practical Training – 80%: The practical component provides hands-on workshop experience where learners practise setting up oxy-acetylene welding equipment, connecting and adjusting gas regulators, controlling the welding flame, selecting filler rods, preparing materials, handling the welding torch, producing consistent welds, and working with different joints and welding positions under professional supervision.
Competency Assessment: At the end of the training, learners undergo a competency assessment conducted by qualified assessors and moderators. The assessment evaluates their theoretical knowledge, practical welding ability, equipment handling, flame control, safety awareness, and ability to complete oxy-acetylene welding tasks safely and competently.
Introduction to Oxy-Acetylene Welding: Understanding the fundamentals of oxy-acetylene welding, how oxygen and acetylene combine to produce a high-temperature flame, and the basic principles of heating and joining metal components.
Workplace Health & Safety: Learning correct PPE requirements, hazard identification, ventilation, fire prevention, flashback prevention, safe gas-cylinder handling, leak detection, and proper workshop procedures.
Welding Equipment Setup & Controls: Setting up oxy-acetylene welding equipment, connecting gas hoses and regulators correctly, adjusting gas pressures, inspecting equipment for leaks and damage, selecting suitable torch tips, and preparing equipment for safe operation.
Gas Selection & Flame Adjustment: Understanding oxygen and acetylene gas supply, adjusting gas pressures, selecting suitable torch tips, and producing neutral, carburising, and oxidising flames for different welding applications.
Metal Identification & Preparation: Identifying materials such as mild steel and preparing surfaces through cutting, grinding, cleaning, and aligning metal components before welding.
Joint Types & Welding Positions: Practising T-joints, butt joints, and fillet welds while developing control when welding in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
Oxy-Acetylene Welding Techniques: Developing skills in torch handling, flame control, filler rod manipulation, travel speed, heat management, and welding thin metal sections.
Welding Defects & Repairs: Identifying common welding problems such as porosity, incomplete fusion, excessive melting, and inconsistent welds while learning basic troubleshooting and corrective techniques.
Quality Inspection & Standards: Learning to visually inspect completed welds, identify quality issues, and understand basic welding quality requirements and applicable safety standards.
Final Practical Assessment: Completing a supervised welding task that allows learners to demonstrate their equipment setup, flame adjustment, welding techniques, safety practices, and ability to produce acceptable welds.
Workshop Production Process: Introduction to basic production workflows, including preparing materials, following measurements and specifications, heating and joining components consistently, inspecting completed work, and maintaining an organised and safe work area.
