Our Pipe Fitting Training Course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively install, assemble, maintain, and repair piping systems in industrial and construction environments. The training covers essential pipe fitting tools and equipment, pipe types and fittings, measuring and marking, pipe cutting, threading, bending, joining methods, flange installation, valve fitting, pipe alignment, pressure testing, leak detection, maintenance, and workplace safety procedures. Learners are guided on how to work responsibly while following manufacturer specifications, engineering requirements, recognised pipe fitting practices, and workplace safety standards. The course provides valuable skills for individuals seeking opportunities in industries such as construction, mining, manufacturing, engineering, oil and gas, industrial maintenance, fabrication, power generation, infrastructure development, and mechanical services.
Theory Training – 20%: Covers pipe fitting fundamentals, piping systems, pipe types and fittings, pipe specifications, measuring and marking, pipe schedules, valves, flanges, workplace safety, PPE, hazard identification, pressure requirements, joining methods, engineering practices, and maintenance procedures.
Practical Training – 80%: Provides hands-on experience in measuring and marking pipes, cutting, threading, bending, fitting and aligning pipework, installing flanges and valves, assembling pipe sections, joining different pipe types, supporting pipework, pressure testing, identifying leaks, and completing pipe fitting installations under professional supervision.
Competency Assessment: Learners are assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical pipe fitting skills, accuracy of measurements, pipe alignment, fitting and joining techniques, use of tools and equipment, safety awareness, and ability to complete piping tasks safely and effectively.
Introduction to Pipe Fitting: Understand the role and responsibilities of a pipe fitter, common industry applications, pipe fitting tools and equipment, and the properties and applications of materials such as PVC, steel, copper, HDPE, and stainless steel.
Pipe Measurements & Calculations: Learn metric and imperial measurements, pipe sizing, reading tables and charts, and calculating offsets, take-offs, and centre-to-end measurements required for accurate pipe fabrication and installation.
Pipe Fabrication Skills: Develop skills in cutting, threading, grooving, bending, and shaping pipes, fabricating pipe spools, and preparing pipe joints for welding and other joining methods.
Pipe Installation Techniques: Learn how to correctly position, align, and secure pipes, install pipe supports and brackets, and fit valves, flanges, gaskets, and other fittings. Training also covers hydrostatic testing, leak testing, and pressure testing.
Pipe Drawings & Isometrics: Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), blueprint symbols, line types, abbreviations, and isometric drawings. Learners develop skills in planning fabrication layouts from technical drawings.
Safety in Pipe Fitting: Learn essential workplace safety practices, including PPE requirements, hot work safety, confined-space safety, lockout/tagout procedures, and the safe use of hand and power tools.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Learn how to inspect pipes, joints, fittings, and supports, identify wear, damage, corrosion, and leaks, and carry out appropriate repairs or replacement of faulty piping components and systems.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
You can either bring your own PPE for training or purchase it from the college for an additional R1,000.
Required PPE: Overall, Safety Helmet, Gloves, Safety Boots.
