Riggers play an important role in construction, mining, manufacturing and industrial operations by preparing, securing and guiding loads during lifting activities. Our Rigger Training Course introduces learners to lifting equipment, slings, shackles, hooks, load handling and essential workplace safety procedures. The course helps learners develop basic rigging knowledge and practical skills for working with cranes, lifting equipment and suspended loads. It is suitable for beginners who want to develop rigging skills for construction and industrial environments.
How much does rigger training cost?
Our Rigger Training Course costs R6,500 per person for 2 weeks of training. The course introduces learners to rigging equipment, lifting accessories, load handling, basic lifting procedures and workplace safety. Learners develop foundational skills for preparing and securing loads during lifting operations.
Is rigging difficult to learn?
Rigging becomes easier to understand through proper instruction, demonstrations and practical exercises. Beginners learn to identify lifting equipment, understand the purpose of different rigging accessories and follow procedures for preparing loads. Practical training helps learners develop accuracy, coordination and confidence when working with lifting equipment.
Rigging also involves understanding load weight, balance, attachment points and communication during lifting operations. Learning these fundamentals helps learners understand how loads are secured and moved safely in construction sites, workshops and industrial environments.
What does a Rigger Course cover?
Our basic Rigger Course introduces learners to the essential knowledge and practical techniques used in lifting and load-handling operations. Training covers:
Introduction to rigging: Understanding the role of a rigger in construction, mining and industrial lifting operations.
Rigging tools and equipment: Identifying slings, shackles, hooks, chains, wire ropes and other lifting accessories.
Lifting equipment inspection: Recognising visible damage and understanding the importance of checking equipment before use.
Load weight and balance: Understanding load weight, centre of gravity and how these affect lifting stability.
Selecting lifting accessories: Understanding how suitable slings and attachments are chosen for lifting tasks.
Securing loads: Learning basic methods for attaching and securing loads before lifting.
Slings and lifting techniques: Understanding common sling configurations and their applications.
Communication during lifting: Learning about hand signals and communication between riggers, crane operators and other workers.
Load movement: Understanding how loads are guided and controlled during lifting operations.
Hazard identification: Recognising suspended-load hazards, pinch points and unsafe lifting conditions.
Workplace safety: Following safe working procedures and maintaining awareness of people and equipment around lifting areas.
Equipment care: Understanding the proper handling, storage and maintenance of rigging accessories.
Where can a rigger work?
Riggers are needed in industries that lift, move, position and install heavy materials or equipment. Learners can pursue relevant entry-level opportunities in environments such as:
Construction sites: Assisting with lifting steel, concrete components and construction materials.
Mining operations: Supporting lifting and equipment-handling activities.
Engineering workshops: Preparing loads and assisting with machinery movement.
Manufacturing facilities: Supporting the movement and positioning of heavy components.
Crane hire companies: Assisting with lifting operations involving mobile and other cranes.
Industrial maintenance: Helping prepare equipment and components for lifting during maintenance work.
Steel fabrication companies: Supporting the movement and installation of fabricated steel structures.
Warehousing and logistics: Assisting with suitable load-handling operations.
Power stations and industrial plants: Supporting equipment installation and maintenance activities.
Infrastructure projects: Assisting with lifting operations during large construction and engineering projects.
What career opportunities are available after rigger training?
After completing our basic Rigger Training Course, learners can pursue entry-level opportunities such as rigging assistant, rigger’s assistant or lifting operations assistant. The course introduces practical skills used when preparing loads, handling lifting accessories and assisting with lifting activities.
Rigging skills are useful in construction, mining, engineering, manufacturing and industrial maintenance. Learners can build on their foundation through workplace experience and further skills development, progressing towards more advanced rigging responsibilities.
Can I get a rigger certificate after training?
Yes, learners who successfully complete the course requirements receive a Rigger Training Certificate. The certificate provides evidence of completing our basic rigging training and can support applications for relevant entry-level positions in construction, mining and industrial operations.
The course introduces learners to essential rigging principles and practical techniques, providing a foundation for further development in lifting and load-handling work.
What are the requirements for rigger training?
Our basic Rigger Training Course is suitable for beginners who want to develop practical rigging skills. You do not need advanced rigging experience to start learning the fundamentals.
Learners should be able to understand instructions, communicate effectively and follow workplace safety procedures. Good coordination, attention to detail and an understanding of measurements are helpful when preparing and securing loads.
A willingness to learn, work carefully with lifting equipment and follow instructions will help learners develop their skills throughout the course.
