Our Forklift Operator Training Course is designed to equip learners with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate a forklift in busy workplace environments. The training covers essential machine operations, safety procedures, pre-start inspections, operating controls, load handling, lifting and lowering techniques, stacking and unstacking, workplace hazards, pedestrian awareness, and emergency procedures. Learners are guided on how to operate the equipment responsibly while following manufacturer specifications, site requirements, and recognised workplace safety practices. The course combines classroom knowledge with practical hands-on training to help learners develop the confidence and competence required to operate a forklift in industries such as warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, construction, retail, distribution, mining, ports, container terminals, and industrial operations.
Theory Training – 20%: Covers forklift fundamentals, machine components and controls, manufacturer specifications, pre-start inspections, workplace safety, PPE, load capacity, stability principles, hazard identification, pedestrian awareness, safe operating procedures, and emergency response.
Practical Training – 80%: Provides hands-on experience in forklift operation, including starting and stopping, steering and manoeuvring, lifting and lowering loads, stacking and unstacking, pallet handling, reversing, operating in confined areas, safe positioning, and completing workplace operating tasks under professional supervision.
Competency Assessment: Learners are assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical operating ability, load handling, safety awareness, and ability to operate the forklift safely and competently.
Machine Orientation: Learn what a forklift is, its functions, and the different types used in the workplace, including counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, and pallet jacks. Training covers major forklift components and their functions, safety features, warning systems, maximum operating capacities, and forklift indicators according to manufacturer specifications.
Pre-Operation Checks: Learn how to conduct daily forklift inspections, including checking tyres, brakes, fluid levels, batteries, hydraulics, forks, and overall machine condition. Learners are trained to identify hazards before operation, complete inspection checklists, report faults, maintain maintenance logs, and understand applicable workplace safety regulations.
Site Preparation & Work Planning: Learn how to assess and prepare the operating area before starting work. Training covers planning the sequence of operations, selecting suitable attachments, identifying required PPE and safety signs, assessing blind spots and visibility, and preparing the worksite according to operational requirements.
Safe Forklift Operation: Develop safe operating practices covering PPE, workplace safety, confined-space awareness, safety signs and warnings, emergency procedures, site hazards, risk assessment, operator responsibilities, pedestrian awareness, and safe movement of loads.
Operating Procedures: Learn to operate forklift controls, including steering, lifting, lowering, and tilting. Training covers starting and stopping, operating indoors and outdoors, working on ramps, understanding rated capacity and load charts, lifting and stacking, de-stacking, securing loads, driving with and without loads, loading and unloading, working on slopes and uneven ground, speed control, and safe manoeuvring.
Load Handling & Material Movement: Develop practical skills for safely lifting, transporting, positioning, stacking, and unstacking loads. Learners learn how to maintain load stability, operate within the forklift’s rated capacity, communicate with pedestrians, and maintain safe visibility during material handling.
Post-Operation Procedures: Learn correct shutdown procedures, cleaning, parking and securing the forklift, refuelling or recharging, completing operational records, and reporting faults or maintenance requirements.
Operator Responsibility & Workplace Safety: Understand the responsibility of the forklift operator for safe machine operation once a load is moved. Learners are taught to stop and report any condition that may make operation dangerous or unsafe and only resume work once hazards have been addressed and safe operating conditions have been confirmed.
Forklift Career Opportunities: Forklift operators can pursue employment opportunities in ports, logistics yards, container terminals, warehouses, distribution centres, manufacturing facilities, construction sites, mining operations, retail distribution, freight and transport companies, and industrial facilities.
