Our Reach Truck Operator Training Course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills required to safely and efficiently operate a reach truck in busy warehouse, logistics, and industrial environments. The training covers essential machine operations, safety procedures, pre-start inspections, operating controls, load handling, lifting and lowering techniques, pallet movement, high-level racking, stacking and unstacking, workplace hazards, pedestrian awareness, and emergency procedures. Learners are guided on how to operate the equipment responsibly while following manufacturer specifications, site requirements, warehouse procedures, and recognised workplace safety practices. The course provides valuable skills for individuals seeking opportunities in industries such as warehousing, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, retail, freight, storage facilities, and industrial operations.
Theory Training – 20%: Covers reach truck fundamentals, machine components and controls, manufacturer specifications, pre-start inspections, rated capacity and load limits, load stability, racking systems, pallet handling, workplace safety, PPE, hazard identification, pedestrian awareness, warehouse traffic rules, and emergency procedures.
Practical Training – 80%: Provides hands-on experience in starting and stopping the reach truck, steering and manoeuvring, operating the mast and forks, lifting and lowering loads, approaching and collecting pallets, transporting loads safely, stacking and unstacking at different heights, positioning loads in racking systems, operating in narrow aisles, and working safely around pedestrians and other equipment.
Competency Assessment: Learners are assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical reach truck operation, load handling, stacking and racking ability, manoeuvring, safety awareness, and ability to operate the reach truck safely and competently.
Machine Orientation: Learn what a reach truck is, its functions, applications, different types, and the main components and their functions. Training covers the mast, forks, carriage, operator compartment, hydraulic system, steering, controls, safety features, warning systems, and rated operating capacities according to manufacturer specifications.
Pre-Operation Checks: Learn how to conduct thorough pre-start inspections, including checking tyres, brakes, forks, mast, chains, hydraulics, battery, steering, controls, warning devices, and overall machine condition. Learners are trained to identify and report faults before operating the reach truck.
Site Preparation & Work Planning: Learn how to assess and prepare the working area before operation. Training covers warehouse aisles, racking systems, floor conditions, pedestrian areas, traffic routes, loading zones, safety signs, and designated operating areas.
Safe Operating Procedures: Develop safe operating practices covering PPE, workplace hazards, load stability, visibility, blind spots, pedestrian awareness, narrow aisles, overhead hazards, speed control, and emergency procedures.
Operating Procedures: Learn to operate reach truck controls according to manufacturer specifications. Training covers starting and stopping, steering, braking, mast operation, fork movement, reach mechanism, lifting and lowering, tilting, and safe manoeuvring in confined warehouse spaces.
Load Handling & Pallet Operations: Develop skills in approaching pallets, positioning the forks correctly, lifting and transporting loads, maintaining load stability, placing and retrieving pallets, and safely handling different types of loads.
Racking & Stacking: Learn safe procedures for high-level racking, stacking and unstacking, placing pallets into storage locations, retrieving loads, maintaining clearance from racking, and preventing dropped or unstable loads.
Warehouse & Narrow-Aisle Operations: Learn to safely manoeuvre in narrow aisles, busy warehouse areas, loading and unloading zones, and around pedestrians and other material-handling equipment while maintaining appropriate speed and awareness.
Load Capacity & Stability: Understand how load weight, load centre, lifting height, fork position, mast movement, and operating surface affect reach truck stability. Training covers operating within rated capacity and avoiding overloading or unstable loads.
Post-Operation Procedures: Learn correct shutdown and parking procedures, lowering and securing the forks, parking in designated areas, switching off and securing the reach truck, reporting faults, and completing required inspection logs and operational documentation.
